Hartington-Newcastle Board agrees to hire new teacher

HARTINGTON — The Hartington- Newcastle School Board approved a contract of a new elementary school teacher Monday.

Lauren Kruse will teach here next fall. She is currently teaching at Wakefield. Prior to that, she student-taught in Hartington.

Kruse will replace Abby Dybdal, who previously taught in the elementary school, but has now moved into special education at the school.

Also Monday, the board went into an executive session to discuss personnel and to discuss their annual review of high school principal Corey Uldrich and elementary school principal Sarah Edwards.

The Board also discussed wage increases for non-certified staff during the closed door session. No decisions were made in that meeting, though.

Also Monday, High School Principal Corey Uldrich told the board about some changes coming to eight-man football. Uldrich was instrumental in getting the changes approved by the Nebraska School Activities Association (see page 1 story for more).

Elementary School Principal Sarah Edwards told the board the April 3 kindergarten and preschool round-up was very successful. She said the day was broken into two sessions to allow time for parents to meet with teachers, while students were able to partake in activities and explore their classrooms for next year.

Edwards also noted the elementary school concert will be held May 1 at 6:30 p.m.

The board will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 19 in the high school consumer science room.
