COLERIDGE — The American Legion Post #114 and its Auxiliary Unit #114 held their monthly meeting April 7, at the Coleridge Community Building. The units jointly recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then they separated and held their monthly meetings.
President V. Gullicksen called the meeting to order. She gave a reading, and a prayer followed by a moment of silence in memory of our departed.
Secretary Brenda Lage called the role with seven members responding. She also read the minutes of the March meeting, which were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given, with a Motion by M. Storm and seconded by R. Polak to approve the treasurer’s report and to pay bills presented.
At this time, the old business was discussed, Bingo at Veteran’s Home in Norfolk and the convention held in Hartington March 15.
It was decided to table the purchase of a poppy kit maker.
Girl state application was approved. Kennedy Hall has been chosen for Girl State held in June. Americanism essay winners were announced, with Ruben Badley in first place, Maya Brummels in second place, and Michael Newton for third place. J. Burbach will be taking the winners their cash prize. The American Legion will have a Free Will Donation Pancake Feed May 4, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Coleridge Community Building. Discussion was held on hosting/ bingo prizes for PVH/Embers and tabled until later on in the year. Membership Dues were discussed and need to be sent to the department by April 15. Volunteer hours/money spent for the auxiliary reports are due April 20. The next meeting will be May 5. The meeting was adjourned. Brenda Lage, Secretary
