HARTINGTON — It was a clean sweep at the top for Hartington at Thursday’s Junior High Track Invitational.
Hartington-Newcastle captured the boys team title with 127 points, while Cedar Catholic came in a strong second with 99, both teams outpacing third-place Wakefield (66).
The Wildcats and Trojans showcased impressive depth across sprints, hurdles, relays, and field events in front of a home crowd at the Hartington Complex.
Colter Feilmeier headlined the meet for Hartington-Newcastle, winning the 100-meter dash (12.17) and finishing second in the 200. He also added a third-place effort in long jump and ran on the winning 4x100 relay team (52.14), joined by Cameron Carl, Henry Folkers, and Nathan Heimes.
Carl was a standout in the hurdles and jumps—winning the 110 hurdles (18.30) and taking second in high jump (5-00) and third in the 200 hurdles (31.24). He also ran a leg on the 4x100.
Nathan Heimes grabbed first in the long jump (17-00.5) and tied for third in pole vault, while Rex Lippert added a win in the 400 (1:04.04) and placed in high jump and hurdles. Henry Folkers chipped in top-five finishes in both sprints and long jump.
The 4x400 relay team (Heimes, Lippert, Dylan Heikes, Gabe Sovereign) battled hard for a second-place finish in 4:35.80.
In the field, Axel Sudbeck placed fifth in the shot put, and Logan Kneifl and Caleb Heimes scored in pole vault to help seal the team title.
Cedar Catholic’s junior high team made their presence known all day, racking up 99 points and showcasing balance across the board.
Hudson Whitmire led the sprint group, placing third in the 100 and fourth in the 200, and running on the second-place 4x100 relay team (53.72) with Abram Steffen, Nate Christensen, and Keaton Keiser.
Steffen also made headlines in the field, winning the pole vault at 8-00 and finishing second in triple jump (32-03.5). Keiser also tied for second in the pole vault and scored in hurdles.
In the throws, Rylan Fischer dominated, winning both the shot put (40-07.5) and discus (126-00). Maddux Ulrich added more big points with a second in shot and fourth in discus.
Cedar Catholic also had scorers in the 400 (Steffen – 2nd), high jump (Blake Bensen – 8th), and relays.
