COLERIDGE — On Thursday, March 27, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge fifth grade class performed William Shakespeare’s famous play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
During the month of March, the class immersed themselves in the literary work for their English and Language Arts class where they delved into the themes, character, and language of the play.
The class culminated their weeklong studies by performing the play for their families which made it an educational experience and an entertaining spectacle for everyone involved.
The play’s comedic and magical elements were perfect for a fifth-grade performance. The charming mix of mistaken identities, enchanted love spells, and humorous misunderstandings had the audience laughing along.
Even the more complicated themes of the play—such as love’s unpredictable nature and the tensions between the fairies and the mortals— were tackled with energy and a sense of fun.
The performance also provided the students with valuable lessons beyond the stage. It encouraged teamwork, boosted public speaking confidence, and fostered an appreciation for one of the world’s greatest playwrights. Students learned how to collaborate, memorize lines, and stay focused under pressure, while also building a sense of accomplishment as they presented a professional-level performance.
