PLAINVIEW - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge track teams traveled to Plainview for the Ray Doerr Memorial Track and Field Meet April 4 with the Bears netting just one medal while the Lady Bears ended up sixth in the 12-team girls division with 36 points.
Pierce won both divisions in the meet with the Lady Bluejays outdistancing Ponca 117 to 81 and the Bluejays running away from from the Indians, 116 to 64.Norfolk Catholic placed third in both divisions to round out the top three spots on the day.
Drey Puppe opened his track career in impressive fashion with a sub 15-second 110-meter high hurdles performance as the freshman brought home a gold medal in his first varsity meet.
Puppe covered the 100 meters in 14.93 seconds nearly two full seconds in front of the runner-up who clocked a 16.83.
Ian Sohler just missed a medal in the triple jump with a best of 35-feet-3-inches, just two inches short of a medal.
The Bears 3,200 relay squad of Shane Langford, Luke Jackson, Sebastian Van Drongelen and Hunter McGhee finished just out of the points in seventh and the 1,600 quartet of Sohler, McGhee, Hunter Benson and Weston Patefield came in eighth.
Tali Erwin opened her final season as a Lady Bear with a second-place finish in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-10.
Wausa’s Mackenzie Suhr took the high jump title after also clearing the bar at 4-10, but had fewer misses in the competition to edge out Erwin.
The Lady Bears relays made some hay in the meet.
The 3,200 relay team of Kate Tasler, Addy Hoeppner, Tyler Recob and Carlie Kvols placed third, circling the track eight times in 11:26.46; the 1,600 squad of Kvols, Hattie McCorkindale, Recob and Kate Tasler was fourth; and the 400-meter team of McCorkindale, Taelyn Settje, Kvols and Erwin placed fifth with a time of 56.63 seconds.
Tasler led a 3-6 finish in the 1,600-meter run, placing third while teammate Faith Galvin was sixth. Galvin also placed fourth in the 3,200 with teammate, Ava Christiansen placing sixth.
The Lady Bears also had some near-misses with Kvols placing seventh in the 400, Settje taking eighth in both the 100 and 200 and Hoeppner just off the mark in the 3,200, placing eighth.
Both teams are scheduled to return to the track on April 9 in Creighton and will travel to Wayne for the Wayne Invitational April 15.
