Mushrooms land Minn. man in jail here

HARTINGTON – A Minnesota man has been arrested in Cedar County for possessing psylocibin mushrooms.

Adam Beyer, 28, Maple Grove, Minn., was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by Neb. State Trooper Dylan Grassmyer of the Nebraska State Patrol for going 4 mph over the posted speed limit on Highway 20.

During the traffic stop, Grassmyer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and other law enforcement arrived to assist in a search. Along with marijuana and related paraphernalia, officers located a glass jar containing the hallucinogenic mushrooms. The jar with mushrooms also contained Beyer’s driver’s license.

After being booked into the Cedar County Jail, he posted $3,500 in bond and was released.

He faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and his next appearance date was set for May 1.

The driver and other vehicle occupant denied knowledge of the mushrooms. The driver was cited for possession of marijuana and released.

In other court news, a Norfolk man was sentenced to 30 days in jail for resisting arrest.

In Cedar County Court last week, the felony charge against 33-year-old Chaz Dubray was reduced to a misdeameanor. He was given credit for 11 days already served.

Dubry was arrested after Nebraska State Patrol officers were called to a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Highway 81 with the driver’s side door open, obstructing traffic.

Trooper Ryan Hilliard found Dubray to be driving under suspension. When Hilliard went to arrest him, Dubray resisted and it took another two officers to handcuff him and place him in the back of the patrol car.
