HARTINGTON - The Wynot Blue Devil and Lady Blue Devil track teams made their way to Hartington on April 1 for the Cedar Catholic Invitational at Russ Hochstein Field.
The Lady Blue Devils finished ninth in the meet while the Blue Devils came in 10th in the final standings.
Battle Creek won both divisions with the Braves outlasting Cedar Catholic, 174-82 and the Bravettes in front of Bloomfield 163-72.
The Wynot girls scored a dozen points while the boys posted 10 on the day.
The Lady Blue Devils’ points came from Eliza Lange and Tiara Sudbeck and all of the points came from the field events in the meet.
Lange placed second in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-feet-8-inches, two inches lower than Hartington- Newcastle, freshman, Vayda Lippert who cleared 4-10.
Sudbeck placed fourth in the long jump with a best of 15-07.50, three inches further than Sydney Kuchar for Battle Creek who was fifth. Tri County Northeast’s Kiya Tornez won the event after hitting the sand at 16-00.5.
Lane Heimes paced the Blue Devils with a second-place finish in the high jump clearing 5-10.
Just as in the girls’ competition, Heimes was tied with Breylin Witzel of Battle Creek who also made 5-10, but Heimes had more misses so was awarded the silver medal.
Kotner Koch hopped, skipped and jumped his way to a fifth-place showing in the triple jump with a best of 38-08, under a foot behind the winner of the event, Mason Krause of Hartington-Newcastle who recorded a 39-06.50.
Both teams headed back to Hartington April 8, this time for the Hartington- Newcastle Invitational, Wynot will make it three weeks straight when the Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils return to Russ Hochstein Field April 15 for the Trojan Invitational.
