Extension hosts career exploration program

LAUREL — Connecting the Dots, a career exploration day hosted by Nebraska Extension in Caedar County and sponsored by the Cedar County 4-H Council, was held March 26, at Laurel Concord Coleridge High School.

This interactive career exploration program allowed over 100 ninth grade students from Laurel Concord Coleridge, Randolph, Wynot and Cedar Catholic High School to learn more about careers of interest as well as how to “connect the dots” from high school through postsecondary study to the workplace.

Students experienced a “real life” simulation to learn how their high school choices impact their post-secondary study and their workplace experiences and networked with local business leaders and representatives from postsecondary institutions.

Business and industry representatives from all over Cedar County represented a specific career field and played a key role in helping the youth navigate the simulation. The afternoon featured an opportunity for the youth to brush up on their resume building skills and ‘motivated skills’ which are skills that they are good at and they like to do as opposed to skills they don’t like to do, leading to (burnout skills).

These skills can be used to help them identify what career to seek in the future. A great big thank you to the Laurel Concord Coleridge Schools for hosting and all the
