LAUREL — The Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association of the Education of Young Children, is the world’s largest early childhood education association.
Early childhood is a time of rapid brain growth. During this period children gain cognitive and social skills that help form the foundation for their future learning and academic success. A child’s experiences, positive or negative, influence the wiring of their brain and the connections in the nervous system.
The NAEYC is providing a week of engaging resources centering around key components of early childhood education, with themed days focusing on music, cooking, working together, art and family fun.
Amanda Christensen, director at Building Blocks Early Childhood & Family Development Center in Laurel: “Every day is a great day to celebrate children and support their development and well-being. The Week of the Young Child is a time to be more public in educating the potential of young children.”
“It’s also a reminder as we come together this week to understand the work of the early childhood profession, as they work for the children, families and communities. The early childhood field is one of the most powerful investments we can make in our future.” said Carol Benson, owner of Carol’s Child Care, LLC in Coleridge.
During the Week of the Young Child all are encouraged to engage in positive activities with children. Carol’s Child Care and Building Blocks will provide themed days: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, Family Friday.
