LAUREL — Great excitement prevailed at the M&O Depot in this city last Thursday when a tractor belonging to George Hansen and his son who live near Newcastle was driven off the loading platform by the son.
The machine had been purchased by A.E. Maun and was driven off the platform where it was to be loaded into a truck for transportation to their home.

LAUREL — Twenty two boys, members of the agricultural classes of the local school, went to Sioux City Monday where they were entered in a judging contest.
They placed second. Edwin Pherson was in second place for individual honors.
Other local boys placing were David Anderson and Donald Most.

LAUREL — A campaign for the beautification of popular Lo-Val Lake is now underway and it will be a big success if those interested will share in the work. Walter Youngberg and Robert Nunemaker made a trip to the Missouri River hunting for trees for the project.

LAUREL — Marble playing boys and girls are invited to compete in Laurel’s first annual marble tournament April 13. The preliminaries will be held at Mittelstadt’s and at the St. Anthony Lumber Yard.

LAUREL — Lawrence Wiemers, assistant state supervisor of high schools in Nebraska, spent Tuesday inspecting high schools in this area.

BELDEN- Shirley Jones, 13-year-old Belden pupil and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Jones, out-spelled 78 other contestants to be crowned champion at the annual Cedar County spelling contest. Miss Iola Wendel is the champions teacher.

LAUREL- Work is being rushed to complete Julius Knudsen’s new six-cabin tourist cabin camp by the first of June. When finished, including the graveling of the drives and landscaping of the premises, it will be one of the best of its kind in the state. The building, 112 by 20 feet, will be the last word in modern construction.

LAUREL — The new Burlington Zypher, the “Silver Streak” is due in this city tomorrow afternoon at 3:19.
The new streamliner has been chartered by the Sioux City businessmen for a trip to O’Neill.

LAUREL — The University glee club of which Clarence Johnsen is a member made a tour singing at high schools and public auditoriums in Columbus, David City, Stromsburg, Osceola and York.
