COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Board of Education was considering the termination of Mrs. Dykeman’s contract under the school district’s reduction in force (RIF) policy adopted Dec. 11, 1978.
Superintendent Wm. Schnoor reported the teaching ability of Mrs. Dykeman was not in question but the reduction in teaching staff was necessitated by decreasing enrollment figures in the school system.
In the case of Mrs. Dykeman and Gary Sayler, who teaches business education in the Coleridge School, Supt. Schnoor stated both teachers had identical endorsements and qualifications.
He stated his recommendation to the Board to retain Mr. Sayler was based on regular assignments and contributions to the activity program — mainly in the coaching field.
He stated Mrs. Dykman would be released with honor and recommendation and not on the lack of teaching ability. She also could be recalled for 24 months if the need presents itself.
Mrs. Dykeman has been a teacher at Coleridge for six years and Mr. Sayler for three.
Following the executive session the Board reported the teaching contract of Mrs. Dykman would be terminated at the end of the school year on a vote of 4-1.
Board members Hefner, Smith, Feelhaver and Benson voted in favor and Dendinger had opposed the move.

HARTINGTON—It will become more difficult to build a home in the county if proposed Cedar County zoning regulations are approved.
The current proposal mandates landowners must have anywhere from 3-80 acres of land in order to build a residence in the county. Acreage limits are mandated in a new zoning map approved by the Planning and Zoning Board.
The proposed zoning regulations, which comprise 50 pages, will be discussed at a public forum April 10 in the Courthouse.
