LINCOLN — A Hartington girl's artistic talents earned her some very special recognition last week.
Holy Trinity third grade student Eliza Feilmeier was on hand for a news conference at the Capitol Thursday where Gov. Jim Pillen signed a proclamation declaring Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week.
He also used the occassion to recognize some budding young artists.
Feilmeier's artistic talents earned third-place in the annual Severe Weather Awareness Week poster contest.
NEMA Director, Adjutant General Craig Strong announced the winners of the annual Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest. Nebraska third graders provided tips for being prepared for disasters that can impact Nebraskans during the spring and summer. The top four students were recognized at the news conference.
Another Holy Trinity student, Nolan Fischer,earned Honorable Mention status in the contest. Gov. Pillen said the special week serves as a great reminder to the importance of taking severe weather warnings seriously. “When it comes to severe weather, it is important that all Nebraskans take weather warnings seriously and don't become complacent,' Gov. Pillen said. 'Flooding, fire and tornadoes — they all pose threats this time of year. Taking the time to be prepared can be a lifesaver.'
