YANKTON (SD) - After opening the 2025 track campaign at the Wayne State Indoor Meet last week, the Cedar Catholic Trojan and Lady Trojan track teams traveled north to Yankton to compete in the Mount Marty College Indoor Meet at the Ruth Donohue Fieldhouse.
No team scores were kept in the meet involving runners from Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
The Lady Trojans were paced by Lauren Bernecker who placed second in the 400-meters with a time of one-minute, 2.10 seconds which eclipsed the meet record, unfortunately the front runner who placed first also replaced the record with a time of 1:01.10.
Bernecker also placed fifth in the 200 in 28.15 seconds.
She joined her sister, Brynn, Madison Eickhoff and Kally Becker to take a fifthplace medal in the 1,600 relay; Becker, Claire Rolfes, Eickhoff and Kendra Schmit got together to take sixth in the 3,200-meter relay.
Braeden Reifenrath posted the best finish for the Trojans, placing second in the 60-meters in a meet-record time of 7.2 seconds, just an eyelash behind the winner of the race, Christopher Lee who hit the tape after 7.13 seconds.
Cedar Catholic had a successful day in the relays with the 3,200 meter squad of Nolan Becker, Hunter Kuchta, Matthew Loecker and Kighter Wortmann placing third and the 1,600 quartet of Kuchta, Becker, Cooper Hochstein and Loecker joining forced to take fourth in that event.
Kighter Wortmann placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run and Aaron Wortmann was sixth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5-feet-10-inches.
The teams were back in action April 1 for their own invitational before competing in the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational on April 8.
