NORFOLK – Hartington-Newcastle traveled to Norfolk Catholic for arguably its toughest meet of the season at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on May 4.

NORFOLK — Hartington-Newcastle traveled to Norfolk Catholic for arguably its toughest meet of the season at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on May 4.

Add in the fact, head coaches, Blair Kalin and Mandy Hochstein are throttling back some of their athletes to get them ready for the upcoming district meet, and points were hard to come by.

Crofton won the title in the girls’ portion of the event by a single point over Norfolk Catholic 119-118, the Lady Wildcats were eighth with 18.

Norfolk Catholic won the boys’ title with 152 points, Pierce was second with 108 while Hartington-Newcastle was seventh with 24.

Lane Heimes was the bright spot on the day for HNS as he broke the school record while winning the pole vault, clearing the bar at 13-feet even.

The Wildcats also earned four fifthplace medals on the track.

Cole Rosener grabbed one in the 400 with a time of 54.6 seconds, Alan Santiago was fifth in the 800 in 2:18.30, Kysiah Rice was fifth in the 110 high hurdles and Mayson McIntosh was fifth in the 300 hurdles.

The 4X400 quartet of Cole Heimes, Mayson and Landen McIntosh and Rosener circled the track four times in 3:47.5 for fourth.

The 4X100 team of Kale Korth, Lane Heimes and Mayson McIntosh placed fifth 46.5 seconds.

For the Lady Wildcats, the 3,200 was a big event as two runners secured medals.

Abby Anderson was third 14:40.7 and Carmen Buschkamp was fifth in 15:10.3.

Lauren Howell placed fifth in the shot with a heave of 33-08.50 and Jade Ford was fifth in the triple jump with a best of 31-03 after just missing a medal in the long jump.

Alivia Morten earned a sixth in the 300 hurdles in 52.3 seconds and Mani Lange was sixth in the pole vault at 7-00.

Morten, Abi Rice, Ford and Lange combined in the 4X100 relay to place fourth.

Both teams are set to run in the C-4 District Meet at the Hartington Community Complex hosted by Cedar Catholic on May 11.
