1905: Krause purchases the Morten & Wieneman General Store

HARTINGTON — Last Tuesday a jury was secured in the case of the State vs. Chas. Harris, and the trial commenced, lasting until Tuesday evening when the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.

This case has been a very interesting one, attracting a large crowd of spectators. When the attorneys made their pleas to the jury, the courtroom was jam full of people who came to see and hear the finishing touches put on the case.

The attorneys made a careful review of the testimony and after the judge read his instructions, the case was entrusted to the jury and they were out but a short time.

HARTINGTON — The city election to be decided next Tuesday will have the unique distinction of being decided on purely personal grounds.

There is no material issue between the candidates, or all have about the same views with regard to public improvements.

Mr.Lubely, Mr. Gable and Mr.

Lynde have all served the city with credit on previous occasions.

J.L. Tinkcom candidate for Councilman from the second ward, is at present serving on the Council, filling out the term of Anton Walz, the office becoming vacant when he moved from the ward.

For City Clerk, the names of B Ready, present clerk, and H.E. Burkett have been presented. Both are attorneys well known and each with a strong following. The election will determine which one is the strongest. As there seems little interest in the election, we predict a light vote and a quiet day.
