HARTINGTON — Five Cedar Catholic Trojan basketball players were named to the Mid-State All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention squads by the conference coaches this past week.
Nolan Becker and Jaymison Cattau were tabbed to the All-Conference Team while Aaron Wortmann, Braeden Reifenrath and Mason Baller were on the honorable mention list.
Cedar Catholic and Battle Creek each had two players on the first team, Wayne, Pierce, Ponca, Boone Central and O’Neill had one player named apiece.
Here’s what Trojan head coach, Nick Haselhorst had to say about his Trojans: Nolan Becker: “Nolan led the team in points and rebounds per game. His experience and guidance helped guide us to another strong season. He drew a lot of attention from opposing teams defensively because of his ability to score the basketball. He leaves Cedar Catholic with quite a legacy - four-year letter winner; threeyear starter; four time state qualifier and over 1,000 career points.”
Jaymison Cattau: “Jaymison led our team in assists and made 3-pointers. He was a tough match up for opposing defenses due to his combination of size, passing and perimeter shooting abilities. Defensively, he was able to guard multiple positions and was often tasked with guarding one of the opposition’s top players.”
Braeden Reifenrath: “Defensively, Braeden had a unique combination of size and strength that allowed him to play undersized against other teams’ post players. He was a physical presence inside for us and contributed greatly to the team.”
Aaron Wortmann: “Aaron took his opportunity and ran with it this year and he improved throughout the season. He could score in bunches off the catch and shoot and he could hurt teams with his driving ability. He ran the floor hard in transition and developed a knack for knifing in and getting offensive rebounds.”
Mason Baller: “Mason was always tasked with guarding the opposition’s point guard or best scorer. He was a pest in the front court and really set the tone for us defensively. Offensively, he had some explosive moments scoring the basketball and is a very efficient shooter.”
Becker, Cattau and Reifenrath are all seniors, Wortmann and Baller will return next season for Cedar Catholic.
