LCC basketball players pick up All Conference recognition

PLAINVIEW - The Greater Northeast Activities Conference recently announced its boys’ and girls’ All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention lists for the first time in the conference’s history for basketball.

The Bears had one player listed on the All Conference squad and one on the honorable mention list. The Lady Bears placed two on the first team and two on the honorable mention team.

Gibson Roberts - GNAC All-Conference First Team: 19.2 ppg; 5.2 rpg; 3.3 assists per game.

Season high 35 points vs. Winnebago; 12 games with 20+ points; Scored in double digits 22-of-25 games; 1,201 career points; 5th all time in career points at LCC.

Coach Quin Conners’ comments: “He had a great season by all accounts. I personally challenged Gibson to take huge strides in the areas of rebounding and assists going into the season. It is no secret he can score, but I really wanted him to be able to impact the game in multiple ways. He did this by being second on our team in rebounding and leading our team in assists, both of which were career highs. He was at the top of every scouting report and he took that challenge head on every night. It was a true pleasure coaching Gibson and he deserves every accolade.”

Cade Johnson - GNAC Honorable Mention: 8.2 ppg; 6.6 rpg. Season high 16 points vs. Creighton, South Sioux City, Wisner-Pilger; Season high 14 rebounds vs. Wynot.

Coach Quin Conners’ comments: “For an underclassmen playing his first varsity season where he was asked to play huge minutes, he had a very successful sophomore season. He is just scratching the surface of the player that he is capable of being and we saw that numerous times this season. He is always undersized with his matchup and doesn’t let that impact his ability to be effective on either end of the floor. He will be asked to take a huge step forward for our program going into his junior year and we are excited to see what happens.”

Rena Rasmussen - GNAC All-Conference First Team: 19.4 ppg; 10 rpg.

Kaida Eriksen - GNAC All-Conference First Team: 13.2 ppg; 4.4 rpg; 2.8 assists per game.

Coach Marcus Messersmith’s comments: “Both Rena and Kaida had all time Laurel-Concord-Coleridge great years. Rena broke the season record for points with 465 and is already well over 800 in her career at the end of her sophomore season. Kaida broke the school single season 3-point record making 67.

Lainey Schutte - GNAC Honorable Mention: 5.2 ppg; 7.1 rpg; 3 assists.

Carlie Kvols - GNAC Honorable Mention: 9.6 ppg; 4.3 rpg; 2.5 assists.

Coach Marcus Messersmith’s comments: “Carlie also broke the old school record for 3-pointers with 40, that is a good problem to have for me with two shooters from outside returning. Lainey had a great year and was a great leader for us.I thought of her as our ‘glue girl’. She did a lot of little things for us. Some of which don’t show up on a stat sheet and she gave us the ability to have success.”
