COLERIDGE—The residents of the Coleridge community looked out the window Tuesday morning with somewhat mixed emotions as Old Man Winter continued to serve up another fresh snowstorm.

The snow, which began early Tuesday morning, continued most of the day with a slackening toward evening after dumping another three to four inches on the area.

Many country roads around Coleridge were blocked again as the drifting snow pushed into the already clogged cuts. Occasional light snow over the weekend had added another two inches to the mounting drifts.

High temperatures the early part of the week of around 15-25 degrees felt almost balmy after the 20-degree-below-zero readings which prevailed for several days last week.

The thermometer didn’t get much over the zero mark before taking the plunge again. Highways in the area are not good due to the packed snow and ice.

COLERIDGE—Marie Thompson, who was severely burned the latter part of December, underwent surgery for the eighth time Tuesday at the University Hospital in Omaha. It is expected that she will be hospitalized for two or three more weeks.

A complete remodeling was completed with the construction of a new office, shelving, kennels and operating room. D. Brockman, formerly of the Brockman Produce, is managing the office and assisting Dr. Lortz. Don Brockman is the new owner of the Brockman Produce.

COLERIDGE—The cold weather is beginning to show signs of the times. Lyle Thomas of the Great Plains Supply Co. reported this week that a farmer from the northern part of the county had come to Coleridge in search of coal for this furnace.

Thomas said the farmer had been to Hartington, Fordyce, Crofton and Yankton and had found none. After buying a load he had then gone home and told his neighbor who also came and purchased a load.

LAUREL— With the weatherman forecasting the approach of warmer air and the calendar recording the approach of spring (March 20), a storm moved in Tuesday and dumped six inches of snow on this area.

COLERIDGE—The Coleridge area on Monday was in a relatively narrow band of snow, which fell in the state and received a total of about seven inches. School was dismissed early.

There was very little wind accompanying the snowfall but visibility was at times limited.
