Local swimmers compete in S.D. state meet

Several Hartington area swimmers not only compete for the Dolphins during the summer season, but also compete for the Vermillion Area Swim Team during the winter season.

They travel to Vermillion from September to March for swimming practices.

Several local athletes qualified for and competed in state swimming meets in South Dakota.

The 12-and-under State meet took place in Mitchell, S.D. Feb. 20-23.

Piper Dendinger and Hadley Dendinger both competed in that meet.

The 13-and-over State meet took place in Sioux Falls, S.D. Feb. 27-March 2.

Kyson Lammers and Emily Climer both competed in that meet.

Here is a look at how the local swimmers fared.

Piper Dendiger competed in six events. Her best race was a fourth place finish in the 50-meter backstroke.

Her other events were:

9-10 50 free, 17th place

9-10 100 back, 7th place

9-10 50 breast, 17th place

9-10 100 breast, 15th place

9-10 100 free, 21st place Hadley Dendiger competed in nine events at State. She earned a second-place medal in the 200-meter free relay and a third-place medal in the 200 medley relay.

She also competed in:

11-12 50 free, 11th place

11-12 100 back, 15th place

11-12 50 Breast, 13th place

11-12 100IM 15th place

11-12 50 back, 5th place

11-12 100 breast, 13th place

11-12 50 fly, 16th place

11-12 200 Free Relay 2nd place

11-12 200 yard medley relay 3rd place Emily Climer competed in three events at State.

15-16 200 Free, 27th place
