Blue Devils punch their ticket to State

O’NEILL — The Wynot Blue Devils continue their late season run as they downed the Cody Kilgore Cowboys in their district final game Monday. Wynot would explode out the gate and race to a 25-7 first quarter lead, expand it to 55-18 at halftime as they cruised to the 76-38 win. With the win Wynot advances to next week’s state tournament.

Devin Brummer continues to lead the Blue Devils with his three point accuracy. Brummer hit 4 more threes to lead his team with 14 points. Killian Steinhaus had a solid game at point guard finishing with 13 points. Kotner Koch also connected for 10 points and Nixen Heimes just missed double figures with a trio of three pointers for nine points. Cody Kilgore got 15 points from Cooper Pitkin and 11 points from Jasper Roseberry to pace the Cowboys attack.

Wynot came out firing. Devin Brummer hit a pair of threes on his way to eight first-quarter points. Killian Steinhaus hit for seven points and Nixen Heimes and Lane Heimes both connected from long range as the Devils raced to a 25-7 first quarter advantage.

The shelling continued in the second quarter.

Nixon Heimes and Devin Brummer each hit twice from distance. Justin Heimes worked the low post for a pair of baskets and Lane Heimes and Braylon Hans each connected from behind the arc as Wynot expanded their lead to 55-18 at halftime.

Cody Kilgore got four points from Cooper Pitkin, a trey by Jasper Roseberry and a bucket plus one by Cash Cooper but the Devils had them reeling.

The two teams traded baskets in the third quarter as the running clock came into play. The Cowboys got six points from their big center Cooper Pitkin and a three-pointer from Tristan Fish.

Wynot countered with six from Kotner Koch and a pair of baskets by Steinhaus as they maintained a big 70-31 lead going into the final quarter of play.

Time moved quickly in the final quarter with the running clock in play. Cody Kilgore’s Cooper Pitkin hit a pair of baskets in close and Heston Fay had a lay-in for the Cowboys. Wynot cleared their bench and Carter Hans hit a pair of field goals and Jed Nelson had a bucket and free throw as Wynot punched their ticket to Lincoln with the 76-38 win.
