PIERCE – The regular monthly meeting of the Pierce County GOP was held on Feb. 4 at the Pierce Library.
Legislation was the predominant topic of discussion for the evening. Some of the bills that were discussed involved ways to address spending and property tax as well as making Nebraska a “winner-takes-all” state. Nebraska and Maine are the only states who divide electoral votes in presidential elections. This proposed change would give all three electoral votes to the winning candidate.
Members were encouraged to sign up for legislative updates at nffv. org. NFFV, which is Nebraskans for Founders’ Values, is an organization that alerts members when God-given rights, protected by the Constitution, are threatened or protected by proposed legislation. Nebraska citizens can be alerted via text or e-mail of these proposed bills and can then access the Unicameral website through a direct link to the legislation in question. There, they can provide testimony to their senator, voicing support or opposition to a particular bill.
The group’s current officers will participate in a training to enable more communication among area county GOP parties. Training is being provided by District 3 representative and the Political Director of the Nebraska State GOP.
The next meeting of the Pierce County GOP will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 4 at the Pierce Library.
