Kessler said he was going south when he ran out of gas and reached down to turn on an auxiliary tank. He looked up just before giving the mailbox a glancing blow. To receive the new service it is only necessary that those living in the eligible areas ask their postmaster to provide it. At least 50 percent of the families in the area must want the service.

Affected are those postal customers living more than a quarter mile, but less than a half-mile from their post office.

COLERIDGE—Monday night Coleridge opened play in the Class C district tournament at Bloomfield and won 82-36 over Wynot. Coleridge again did not play a game at their full capability. A fine defensive game by the Bulldogs held Wynot to three points in the third quarter as they dumped in 19. Randy Hoffart led the Coleridge delegation with 16.

COLERIDGE—The Coleridge Celtics had to settle for third place in the playoffs over the weekend. Saturday night they lost to Wynot 7880 and on Sunday they downed Crofton 77-71. In the Saturday night event Coleridge was down as much as 15 points before picking up the pace. The Celtics momentarily took the lead late in the second half but couldn’t hang on. Kevin Krei paced the team with 25 points with Rick Hansen pumping in 22. Roger Hahne hit 15. Leading Wynot shooter was Mark Klitzing who netted 33 points.

Sunday night consolation action Coleridge again was down by eight before the tide was changed.

COLERIDGE—The Clarkson Red Devils capitalized on a cold three-point third quarter by the Lady Bulldogs to eventually claim a one-point winning ticket to the state basketball tournament. Coleridge had things going their way in the first half of district final action as they held a 14-9 first period lead and a 10-point margin 31-21 at half.

The Lady Bulldogs, plagued with third quarter scoring problems most of the season, found the cap on the bucket following intermission and managed to hit for only three points. Clarkson came out under full steam and deposited 14 big points to claim a one-point lead 35-34 to open final quarter play. Exchanges of a single point lead in closing minutes of the game saw the Lady Bulldogs in front of 44-43 at 1:01. A two pointer by Clarkson with 16 seconds proved fatal but Coleridge nevertheless had several attempts at tip-ins that rimmed out before the buzzer. The final game loss gives Coleridge a 17-4 overall mark on a fantastic season. The only losses were to Randolph, Emerson (2) and Clarkson.
