Cedar girls set to host District final

HARTINGTON - Cedar Catholic swept through the D1-3 Sub-District to land in the D1-6 District title game Feb. 28 at the same site as the sub-district, the Msgr. Werner Activities Center.

The Lady Trojans defeated Bloomfield in the sub-district final, 67-34 and defeated Wausa 68-32 in the opening round of the tournament for Cedar.

The win over the Lady Vikings snapped a four-game losing skid from a brutal stretch of the schedule with the four losses to teams with a combined record of 80-21.

Bloomfield came into the sub-district final with some young talent, but the Lady Trojans got defensive after the Queen Bees opened the game with a 17-13 lead after the first eight minutes.

Cedar Catholic took care of the deficit in the second session and took the lead for good, 2923 at the halftime buzzer.

The Lady Trojans put the game out of reach in the second half, outscoring Bloomfield 38-11 to post the 33-point differential.

Anisten Wortmann is heating up in the post season and led Cedar Catholic with 19 points. Katelyn Arens had her steady 14 points and Addison Walter tossed in 13.

Wortmann just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, Savannah Pick hauled in six missed shots.

The Lady Trojans jumped on Wausa and went to the halftime huddle with a fairly comfortable 37-17 lead then increased the advantage by eight points in both the third and fourth quarters to coast to the 68-32 victory.

Wortmann again paced four Cedar players in double digits, pouring in 20. Arens just missed a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds, Walter had another bakers’ dozen and Pick chipped in 10.

The Lady Trojans will welcome Nebraska Christian to town on Feb. 28 for the district final with the winner of that game grabbing a ticket for the Class D1 Nebraska State Girls Basketball Tournament the following week.

Nebraska Christian will come to Hartington as the No. 11 seed while Cedar is the No. 6 seed. Tip off is slated for 6:30 p.m.
