Wildcats end regular season with big win

CREIGHTON - The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcat basketball team hit the road to close out the 2024-25 regular season with a trip to Creighton to take on the Bulldogs.

The Wildcats scored early and often on the way to a somewhat easy, 56-23 win.

“What a great way to end the season for us,” said Hartington-Newcastle coach, Tylor Fincher. “We played great defense and contested almost every shot in the first half.”

The ‘Cats defense held the Bulldogs to a single basket in the entire first half while sprinting to a 33-2 lead at the halftime horn.

Hartington-Newcastle kept the heat on in the third and added four points to the lead then emptied the benches in the final eight minutes.

“It was great to see the smiles on the boys’ faces during the game,” said the coach. “I could tell they were enjoying themselves.”

Cole Heimes and Brayden Lammers led the Wildcat offense with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Austin Sudbeck tacked on nine and Mason Krause tossed in eight.

Lammers achieved a double-double by pulling down 10 rebounds on the night, Ayden Rosener grabbed six missed shots.

Sudbeck dished out four assists. The Wildcats host the D1-7 SubDistrict Feb. 28 and Feb. 29 and were set to take on Walthill in the first round as the No. 1 seed.
