LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear basketball team ended the regular season with a couple of wins, but fell to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder in Monday’s opening round of the C1-4 Sub-District Tournament at Columbus Scotus.
Prior to the loss to LV/SS, the Lady Bears had defeated Wisner-Pilger on Feb. 13, 72-58 and turned back Summerland for the second time in a week, 54-47.
LCC had won 7-of-9 games heading into the the SubDistrict and two straight since dropping a game to undefeated, Elkhorn Valley by just four in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Tournament semifinals back on Feb. 6.
Statistics for the SubDistrict game with LVSS were not available at press time and a full recap of the game will be in next week’s Laurel Advocate.
In the game with the Lady Gators, the Lady Bears led for nearly the entire contest and led 26-17 after Rena Rasmussen scored inside.
Kaida Eriksen canned a 3 and the lead grew to 29-17.
After Wisner-Pilger answered with a long ball, Eriksen splashed another trifecta and Rasmussen scored with her left hand inside to make it 34-20.
Back-to-back 3’s by Carlie Kvols late in the third frame pushed the lead to 50-34.
“It was good to see Carlie make some shots in the game,” said LCC coach, Marcus Messersmith. “We see it all the time in practice and we all know she can make them, she just needs to keep putting it up there.”
Kvols would finish the evening with 22 points with Rasmussen and Eriksen each adding 15. Hattie Mc-Corkindale tossed in eight.
Lainey Schutte chipped in with eight and pulled down 11 rebounds, Rasmussen completed another double- double by grabbing 10 missed shots, McCorkindale also recorded 10 caroms.
The Lady Bears traveled to Summerland Feb. 11 to take on the Lady Bobcats for the second time in a week and with similar results.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge turned away Summerland on Feb. 3 in the opening round of the GNAC Tournament 61-37 and defeated the Lady Bobcats by the 54-47 final score on Feb. 11.
The Lady Bears came from behind in the game after trailing 20-16 at the intermission and 38-31 heading into the final period.
A 23-point fourth quarter made the difference as LCC held Summerland to nine points in the frame to post the victory.
Rasmussen led three Lady Bears in double figures with 23 points, Eriksen added 11 and McCorkindale had 10.
Rasmussen hauled in nine rebounds and Schutte added eight.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge finished the season with a 12-12 record.
