HARTINGTON — Demolition work began on the old Tuttle Motor building on Broadway Street. The building and lot were purchased by the Hartington Telephone Company. Manager Bill Dendinger said a new building will be constructed to house a warehouse and office.

WYNOT — The District III American Legion Oratorical Contest was held at Emerson-Hubbard High School on Wednesday evening. Feb. 13.
Barbara Burbach of Wynot won the first-place trophy, with second and third places going to contestants from Allen and Ponca.

HARTINGTON — Winning by big margins continued to be a habit for the Cedar Catholic Trojans last week when the second-rated Trojans crushed Crofton, 92-50.
Cedar Catholic, 16-0 on the season, had very little trouble silencing Crofton‘s offensive guns and opened up with a 26-point barrage of its own in the first quarter. An important result of the win over Crofton was the fact the Trojans are guaranteed the number one seed in the Class B District tournament.

HARTINGTON — About 50 area farmers and businessmen heard from several speakers on the topics of farm fuel production and conservation at the City Auditorium.
The seminar was sponsored by County Extension Service with the Hartington Chamber of Commerce and the Cedar-Knox Rural Action Group.

HARTINGTON — The $2 million Bow Creek Water expansion project will proceed following user surveys. Looking at plans for a $2 million Bow Creek Rural Water Project Expansion are Gerald Suing, who has helped survey potential users, and Lewis and Clark NRD manager Tom Moser. The expansion has 100 users signed up for service as of Feb. 20.
Officials have also been working with Obert, which has been having high nitrate levels, to see if arrangements can be made to provide quality water to them as part of the expansion.

HARTINGTON — A magician here Sunday put on a matinee performance but disappeared before an evening performance at the City Auditorium. Gunther Nash performed for an hour as scheduled Sunday afternoon, but left unannounced before the evening show.
