HARTINGTON - A couple of Lewis & Clark Conference teams came to Hartington this past week to take on Hartington-Newcastle.
In fact, it was the two teams that met in the Lewis & Clark finals just over a week ago and they both left town with a win over the Wildcats, but it wasn’t easy.
Wynot defeated HNS by a basket on Feb. 14, 47-45 and Wausa slipped past the ‘Cats 53-47 on Feb. 11.
Hartington-Newcastle got all over the Blue Devils and ran out to a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Wynot started nibbling away at the lead through the second and third frames, but the Wildcats still led, 38-33 heading into the final eight minutes.
The Blue Devils caught HNS in the final period and outscored the ‘Cats 14-7 to come away with the win.
Brayden Lammers was more than handful Wynot as he poured in 22 points on the night including a 9-for-11 performance from the field. Cole Rosener tossed in nine.
Lammers completed a double-double with 11 rebounds, Carter Kelly also hauled in 11 boards and Austin Sudbeck handed out three assists.
Against the Vikings the Wildcats fell behind 12-7 in the first frame and trailed 29-21 at the intermission.
The Vikings’ lead would get to double digits in the third quarter, but a rally in the final period fell short for the ‘Cats and they fell by the 53-47 final score.
Cole Rosener was the high scorer for Hartington-Newcastle with a dozen points, Cole Heimes tossed in nine, Lammers contributed eight and Ayden Rosener and Sudbeck chipped in six apiece.
The Wildcats will finish the season at home with a game with Creighton scheduled for Feb. 21 and a date with Walthill on Feb. 25.
