Triplet calves were born on the Koehler farm Sunday southwest of Randolph - a rare occurrence with the odds at 1 in 100,000 in beef cows. “I’ve been calving for 45 years and seen lots of twins born but this is the first set of triplets we’ve ever had on the farm,” said Kevin Koehler. Kevin said he checked this Simmental cow at about 6 a.m. with no signs of labor. When he checked again at 8 a.m., the third calf had just been born. All signs point to mom and her babies being healthy. The Koehlers currently raise about 160 head of Simmental-Angus. The cow that gave birth to triplets is owned by Kevin’s son, Cody. She had only given birth to one other calf prior to her recent triplets.
