LAUREL - In their first trip to the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Tournament, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears took a loss in the opening round but turned away Neligh-Oakdale in a consolation game on Feb. 8.
In the opening round, the Bears were defeated by West Holt, 61-44 on Feb. 4 then defeated the Warriors, 68-17.
LCC ran away from Neligh-Oakdale from the opening tip, grabbing a 17-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Bears extended the lead to 33-6 at the halftime huddle and added 16 points to the advantage during the third period and another eight in the final eight minutes to close out the big win.
Eleven LCC players scored in the game as head coach, Quin Conner, substituted freely all night.
Gibson Roberts led the way with 17 points in the game while Dre y Puppe tossed in 13. Caleb Erwin, Eli Haisch and Tanner Thompson each had six while Paxton Hoeppner and Talon Carson contributed four a piece.
Puppe and Carter Korth both grabbed five rebounds; Erwin, Roberts and Cade Johnson each hauled in four missed shots.
Against the Huskies, West Holt doubled the Bears scoring output in the first quarter as they led 22-11 at the first rest stop.
The lead grew to 44-18 at the intermission but LCC did outscore the Huskies in the final 16 minutes, 26-17 to make the 61-44 final sc ore.
Roberts accumulated 15 points on the night, Carter Korth added 10. Johnson pulled in five rebounds. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was scheduled to head west to take on Summerland on Feb. 11 before hosting Wisner-Pilger on Feb. 13.
