ST. HELENA — Students at East Catholic School competed in various events Jan. 31 during Catholic Schools Week activities. Students from Bow Valley and St. Helena gathered at St. Helena for the events, which included races, an egg toss, a bubble blowing contest, and a free throw contest.

HARTINGTON — An assortment of illegal drugs was displayed Jan 31 by State Trooper Gary Kinney at a meeting here.
Forty people who attended a meeting at the Hartington Senior Center were told that “they have their work cut out for them.” If they wish to make a difference in the fight against drug abuse.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Clerk’s office is in the process of computerizing the city’s accounting system.
The computer system was installed in December and the conversion to computer record-keeping will take several months. According to City Clerk Alice Pommer the computer will make information more available. “The city is growing and when there’s more people there’s more paperwork,” she said. The computer will make auditing and quarterly reports less complicated, too. There will be more information at our fingertips.”

HARTINGTON — Dave Zimmer was approved as the new principal at Hartington Public School. The School Board approved Zimmer on an unanimous 6-0 vote. Zimmer, currently teaches social studies and coaches boys’ basketball at Hartington Public School.

HARTINGTON — All five of Cedar County’s public schools took big hits when the new school aid certification report was recently released. Randolph and Hartington took the biggest hits of all. Laurel-Concord fared the best.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Russ Hochstein squeezed All-Pro teammate Matt Light with a huge bear hug as time expired in Sunday’s Super Bowl, signaling the New England Patriots had won their second straight world championship.
The clock hitting zero in Jacksonville’s Alltel Stadium, ignited a huge celebration on the Patriots’ sidelines complete with hugs, high five’s and confetti.
The Hartington native didn’t see as much time in this year’s game, but he still played a key role in the win.
