LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears have seen little go right over the past month including this past week.

Lutheran High Northeast came to town on Jan. 28 and turned away the Bears 51-38 before LCC took to the road and traveled down to Wakefield on Jan 30 where the Trojans downed the Bears, 45-35.

Wakefield grabbed an early lead on the Bears, ending the first quarter with a 16-9 advantage and extending it to 26-15 by the halftime huddle.

The Bears roared back in the third quarter, getting back to within a single possession, 33-30, but the Trojans outscored LCC 12-5 in the final frame to post the win.

Gibson Roberts led the Bears scoring attack with 15 points, Eli Haisch and Drey Puppe each added six and Cade Johnson scored five.

Johnson pulled down seven rebounds on the night, Robert grabbed five and contributed four steals.

In the game with the Eagles, the teams traded scores in the first two quarters with LHNE winning the first frame 13-10 and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge taking the second quarter by the same score sending the teams to intermission deadlocked 23-23.

The Eagles came out flying in the second half and grabbed an eightpoint lead at the end of the third then coasted to 51-38 final by only allowing the Bears 15 points in the second half.

Roberts accounted for nearly half of the LCC points on the night with 20 points. Haisch added six, Johnson had five and Caleb Erwin tossed in four on a bucket and a couple of free throws.

The Bears were set to open play in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference when they were scheduled to go to Atkinson Feb. 4 to take on the the second seeded Huskies in the opening round.

The winner of that game will take on the winner of a game between Elkhorn Valley (No. 3) and Hartington- Newcastle (No. 6) played after the West Holt LCC game in Atkinson.

The top of the bracket includes Summerland (No. 1), which will take on Neligh-Oakdale (No. 8) and Plainview (No.4) playing Luthern High Northeast (No. 5). The winners of the opening round games will advance to the semifinal which scheduled for Feb. 7 at the highest seeded winner with the finals set for Feb. 8 at Hartington-Newcastle.

The Bears will head to Summerland after the tournament is over for a regular season game with the Bobcats on Feb. 11 before hosting Wisner-Pilger on Feb. 13.
