HARTINGTON — Hartington-Newcastle and Cedar Catholic high schools joined together Saturday to host their annual speech invitational.
Wayne High School walked away with the team title, beating runner-up Hartington-Newcastle 236-123.
Cedar Catholic’s Breah Steffen earned top honors in the varsity Informative Speaking category for her presentation on the risks of sunshine. Classmate Ava Stewart earned runner-up honors in that division.
Hartington-Newcastle had several varsity wins in their home meet.
HNS earned first-place honors for its Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Alyk Zach, Cole Heimes, Gabe Reyes, Jason Heimes and Lainey Morten.
Hartington-Newcastle’s other Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Austin Sudbeck, Carter Kelly, Dane Gotsch, Issac Santiago and Trevon Hopping earned fourth-place honors at the meet.
The local teams will compete again Feb. 8, at the Wayne High WSC meet.
