WYNOT —The Wynot Blue Devils picked up a 40 point win in their basketball game on Monday night against the Niobrara Verdigre Cougars.
Coach Lee Heimes gave extended playing time to his entire bench in this one. The Blue Devils got their fast break rolling early as they mauled the Cougars by a final tally of 70-30.
Wynot had three players finish with double figures led by Justin Heimes with 14 points, Lane Heimes came off the bench for 12 points and Kasen Koch worked the glass for 11.
Niobrara Verdigre was led by Anthony Smith and Kash Neilsen with five points each.
Isaac Hoferer hit a trey for the Cougars in the first quarter and Kash Neilsen had a bucket plus one. Wynot got rolling as they poured in 28 first quarter points led by nine points from Justin Heimes led a three pointer each from Nixon Heimes and Kotner Koch as the Blue Devils roared to a 28-6 lead.
It was more of the same in the second frame Lane Heimes rattled in seven points, Nixon Heimes hit his second trey and four other players scored for the Devils increasing their lead to 35–12 at halftime.
Wynot would rotate their starters in and out in the third quarter. Lane Heimes hit his second trey of the night and Andrew Haberman hit for four points. The Cougars got a three pointer from Langston Moody and one as well from Coy Wickersham but could not gain ground on the Devils.
Landon Frank and Anthony Smith both hit three pointers for the Cougars in the final quarter.
Wynot stayed hot getting four more points each from Kasen Koch and Carter Hans along with four other players scoring a basket as they finish the game on a 17-8 run to make the final margin 70-30.
