RANDOLPH – Randolph Rescue is inviting area residents to make beats count - both heartbeats and musical beats - in its next fundraiser.
The local volunteer squad will be hosting a Sweetheart Ball Adult Prom event to coincide with Valentine’s Day weekend in an effort to raise money for ambulance equipment including a new heart monitor.
City auditorium doors will open for the event at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Tickets may be purchased in advance from Randolph Rescue members or at the door.
Sounds Unlimited will provide the tunes and a cash bar will be available. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed, Longest Couple and Best Dancer.
“You don’t have to dress up if you don’t want but if you want to, go right ahead,” said Tony Backer, Randolph Rescue Chief.
Paul and Julie Loberg will be the host couple.
The dance fundraiser replaces the barbecue cook-off competition normally held in the summer, he said.
“There was an extreme amount of overhead costs with that so we were looking at alternatives and wanted to switch up a little bit,” Backer said.
Not much fills the calendar during February and a dance would be a welcome way to fight the winter doldrums, the group reasoned.
The funds raised during the dance will update ambulance equipment. One item needed for the squad’s second ambulance is a heart monitor, Backer said, which costs about $50,000.
“We’re just planning ahead and putting money aside,” he said. “There’s constant updates needed in equipment and we’ll utilize the funds for that.”
