RANDOLPH - The Randolph Lady Cardinal basketball team is still working toward a first win of the season and although it hasn’t happened, the young ladies continue their quest and their progress is evident, despite it not showing up on the scoreboard.
Randolph was on the road for three games this past week, dropping a 54-11 decision to Winnebago on Jan. 24, a 64-9 loss to Bloomfield on Jan. 21 and a 56-14 loss to Wausa on Jan. 17.
Abbey Backer, a freshman, was the leading scorer for the Lady Cardinals against the Lady Indians on Jan. 24 putting in five points on the evening. Lilly Kuchta added three; Brooke Meier had two and Kynlee Winkelbauer had a free throw.
Kuchta grabbed seven rebounds. Meier added six and Winkelbauer yanked down five. Kuchta had three assists and swiped three steals.
In Bloomfield, the hosts went up big early, taking a 25-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, and increased the advantage at every stop while improving to 10-5 on the season.
Backer had four points in the contest, Meier had three and Delayne Thelen contributed a bucket.
Kuchta hauled in seven missed shots. Meier and Thelen each had four boards.
The Lady Vikings also jumped on the Lady Redbirds early, staking a 24-3 lead at the end of the first and went on to get the win by the 56-14 final score.
Thelen used a 3-for-4 performance from the field to pace Randolph with six points in the game.
Kuchta tacked on four; Winkelbauer and Meier had two points apiece.
Winkelbauer also pulled down seven rebounds. Kuchta dished out three assists and swiped three steals.
Randolph will enter the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament this week beginning on Feb. 2.
