HARTINGTON - The War Production Board has issued an order effective Feb. 1, which prohibits certain unnecessary uses of electricity. This order applies to small communities as well as larger cities and will be effective throughout Cedar County.
The purpose of the order is to save scarce fuels used in the generation of electricity as part of the overall war-time fuel conservation program throughout the United States.
The uses of electricity which are prohibited are: Outdoor advertising and outdoor promotional lighting.
Outdoor sign lighting with limited exceptions.
Marquee lighting in excess of 60 watts for each marquee.

HARTINGTON - Sgt. Alphonse Riibe has returned to Hartington after receiving an honorable discharge from the army.
Sgt. Riibe has been in the armed services for four years, leaving here in 1941 with the National Guard company.
He served 19 months overseas as a gunner on an English transport and wears the Asiatic and European campaign ribbons.

HARTINGTON - Pfc. Kermit Graf, son of Mr. And Mrs. Chris Graf, Belden, was recently honored.
He is with the ground crew of the Air Force in Italy. He recently received a bronze battle star.

HARTINGTON - Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Rumsey, Laurel, received word that their only son, Judson, 35, has been missing in Belgium since December. No other details accompanied the message.

HARTINGTON - Marvin E. Brewer, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brewer, has joined the U.S. Maritime Service and will be assigned to the merchant marine r training center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

HARTINGTON Mr. and Mrs. Chester Jensen were advised by the War Department Monday that their son, Lt. Dean Jensen, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany for several months, will be among American soldiers exchanged for German soldiers held by the United States.
Lt. Jensen, who has been in a prison camp hospital where his left arm was amputated because of wounds, will be returned on the exchange ship Gripsholm, which is expected to reach the United States sometime in February.
He was one of the crew members of a bomber which was shot down over Germany several months ago.

HARTINGTON - Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Bottolfsen received word from their son, Cpl. H.A. Bottolfsen, who was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands, saying that he had been transferred to the Mariana Islands.
He said it was warm there, has lots of rain and the wind blows from the east.

HARTINGTON - U.S. Marine John E. Munter, son of Mr. and Mrs. John. J. Munter, has been promoted to the rank of corporal. He has been overseas for 18 months.

HARTINGTON - S 2/C Ray Wiedenfeld arrived Monday from Farragut, Idaho to spend a five-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiedenfeld, and other relatives and friends.
