HARTINGTON — A bitter cold wave accompanied by strong winds hit this area Tuesday sending the mercury to near 10 degrees below zero Wednesday morning. Sleet early Tuesday morning left the country a sheet of ice, making driving conditions hazardous.
Some snow fell Tuesday evening and several inches had fallen by Wednesday noon.
The cold wave followed two days of spring-like weather on Saturday and Sunday when new highs were recorded for that day in the state.
Hayes Center recorded a high of 74 on Sunday and North Platte a high of 71 on the same day.
