ALBION - The Cedar Catholic Trojans wrestled to a third-place finish in the team race here at Niewohner Arena on the Boone County Fairgrounds here Jan. 25. Lady Trojan Morgan Kuchta ended up fourth at 130 pounds.
Battle Creek ran away with the championship on the boys side of the meet with 261.5 points, Crofton/Bloomfield was second with 174 and the Trojans were third with 159.
Pierce was fourth at 145.5 while the hosts, Boone Central, came in fifth with 110.
Cedar Catholic did post the most champions of any team there putting four wrestlers at the top of the podium at the end of the day. The Trojans also had a runner-up, a third-place finish and a fourth-place showing.
Brady Hochstein at 165 pounds remained unbeaten on the season with his gold as did Easton Hochstein at 144 and Braeden Kleinschmit at 132. Bodie Hochstein improved to 20-2 with his title at 138.
Maverick Heine placed second after dropping a 9-3 decision to returning state champion Ryan Stusse, Jr. from Battle Creek after gaining a major decision to reach the finals.
Grady Lammers placed third at 106 winning his third-place match with a pin over Grady Maas of Wayne and Ty Opfer placed fourth at 150 pounds.
Pierce won the team championship on the girls’ side with 171 points, Wayne was second with 130 and Battle Creek was third with 123.5.
Kuchta was defeated in her quarterfinal match by decision then used a couple of falls to get to the third-place match.
She was pinned by Payton Becker of Boone Central but brought home the fourth-place medal.
NELIGH - On Jan. 23, Cedar Catholic traveled to Neligh for the GNAC meet and edged Plainview for the championship, 215-204, both teams over 50 points in front of third, which was Elkhorn Valley at 155.
The Trojans had six individual champions in the meet, again led by their three unbeaten wrestlers and Bodie Hochstein, but added Heine at 126 and Brody Kleinschmit at 157.
Castin Pinkelman (175) and Lammers (106) were both second individually, Nicholas Coleman (285) was third and Kyptin Collier (190) and Opfer (150) were fourth.
Morgan Kuchta lost her opening match then won a consolation semifinal match by a pin before dropping the third-place match while scoring seven team points for the Lady Trojans.
The Trojans also recently hosted a triangular, earning wins over both West Holt, 54-27, and Lyons-Decatur Northeast, 65-6, to even its season dual record at 5-5.
The Trojan boys were scheduled to head for Wakefield on Jan. 28 before heading to a tournament in Plainview on Feb. 1.
