Wynot’s offense is too much for Creighton

CREIGHTON — Wynot used big first and fourth quarter runs to down the Creighton Bulldogs Tuesday.

Wynot placed 10 players in the scorebook with a balanced attack, to earn the 65-44 victory.

Wynot was led by Devin Brummer, who hit five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 19 points. Andrew Haberman also notched double figures with 11 points, and Justin Heimes and Kasen Koch each just missed double figures with nine points. Creighton was led by Ethan Kuhl with 17 points, and the Bulldogs got 12 points each from Coen Horstmann and Taylor Nilson.

The Blue Devils opened the game with a 21-10 first quarter scoring burst. The quick start was led by Devin Brummer, who hit a pair of treys. Kasen Koch also hit from behind the arc and Justin Heimes helped with a pair of driving lay-ins for the visitors. Creighton got four points each from Ethan Kuhl and Taylor Nelson.

In the second quarter, Creighton was held to just seven points, four points from Taylor Nilson and three by Ethan Kuhl. Wynot increased their lead, helped by four points by Andrew Haberman and a trey by Braylon Hans, along with a basket each from Killian Steinhaus, Justin Heimes and Carter Hans, as Wynot’s lead had doubled up to 3417 at halftime.

Scoring would slow in the third quarter. Wynot got five more points from Devin Brummer and three points by Andrew Haberman. Creighton kept pace with four points from Taylor Nilson and three points by James Fanning as the spread stayed the same, with the Blue Devils leading 43-26 going into the final period.

Both teams heated up in the final quarter. Creighton would get 10 points from Ethan Kuhl to lead the way, and a pair of 3-pointers from Coen Horstmann. Wynot answered with a pair of 3-pointers by Devin Brummer, and four points each from Justin Heimes and Kasen Koch, as Wynot went on a 22-18 run to make the final margin 65-44 in favor of the Blue Devils.
