ATKINSON - The Cardinal wrestling program rolled on this past week taking third in the West Holt Invitational Jan. 17 here after scoring 120.5 points as a team.
Burwell won the team title with 180 points with Plainview taking second with 157.5. West Holt was behind the Cards with 114.5 and Burke/Gregory out of South Dakota rounded out the top five with 111.5 points.
Randolph had a pair of individual champions in Bentley Reimers at 106 pounds and Gage Jensen at 165. Both Reimers and Jensen pinned their way to a gold medal and scored 24 team points on the day.
Jensen stuck his opening round opponent in just 16 seconds to start his day off right.
John Leija at 150 pounds placed second - losing by a 3-2 decision in his finals bout to Ethan Kester of Summerland.
Owen Junck at 157 also placed second and pinned his way to the finals before dropping a technical fall to Jorgan Condon of Creighton.
Gavin Wortmann was third at 190 and Cole Jensen was fourth at 132.
The Randolph girls wrestled in the Battle Creek Invitational on Jan. 20. Results will be in next week’s paper.
Both the Cardinal and Lady Cardinal wrestling teams will be in action Jan. 23 in the Lewis & Clark Conference wrestling tournament in Winside and will head to the Oakland-Craig Invitational on Jan. 25.
