Letters from our R eaders
As we begin the new year, I think it may be a good time to reflect on how lucky we are to live in the great community of Hartington.
I have often said that we live in the best town in Nebraska under 2,000 people. Everything looks nice as people drive through town.
We can thank our past leaders for the vision they had and continue to have. Our living mayors, Gayle Hochstein, Tom Noecker, Bill Yates, Brad Peitz and Mark Becker worked many hours, along with their city council members and economic development members making sure that Hartington would remain a vibrant, flourishing community.
These public servants were volunteers who worked for the greater good. Since 2005, when Dan Kathol returned to Hartington, he has worked tirelessly, often times behind the scenes, ensuring that Hartington remained a progressive community.
Major projects such as Westfield Acres, the flood control project, many improvements in the park and the granddaddy of them all, the Veterans Memorial, have been time-consuming labors of love for him and probably would not have been completed without his determination.
Maybe it would be a good New Year’s resolution to take a few minutes and reach out to our leaders and former leaders and thank them for making Hartington a great place to call home.
