HARTINGTON - Hartington- Newcastle’s Wildcats used a 46-35 win to improve to 4-8 on the season here on Jan. 16.
The Wildcats fell behind early, but rectified the situation in the second quarter, outscoring the Wolfpack 15-6 to head to the intermission with a 21-18 lead.
“Our defense covered for our few turnovers,” said HNS coach, Tylor Fincher. “And we are gaining confidence in our offense.”
Both teams slowed down in the third period with Hartington-Newcastle adding three points to the lead.
The ‘Cats sealed the game in the fourth, outscoring TCNE 16-8 to post the 46-35 final score.
Brayden Lammers recorded a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
“Brayden Lammers had a really good game despite getting in foul trouble early in the game,” Fincher said. “His 16 rebounds and 11 points really helped to seal the victory.”
Carter Kelly and Austin Sudbeck each tossed in nine, Cole Heimes added seven and Cole Rosener had six.
Sudbeck yanked down six rebounds, Kelly and Ashton Wakeley each gathered in five missed shots.
The Wildcats improved to 5-8 Jan. 20 with a resounding, 68-11 win over Neligh-Oakdale in Neligh. A complete recap of that game will be in next week’s Cedar County News.
HNS was set to travel to Laurel to take on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Jan. 21.
The Wildcats will return to the court with a home date with Crofton on Jan. 24 before heading to Plainview for a GNAC game Jan. 28.
