WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils built a 33-20 halftime lead, and then withstood a fourth-quarter rally by the visiting Cedar Catholic Trojans, to earn a 60-50 win.
Wynot had four players hit double-figure scoring, led by Devin Brummer’s 14 points. Andrew Haberman hit for 13 points, Kotner Koch finished with 12 points and Killian Steinhaus chipped in with 10 points in a balanced attack.
Cedar got 15 points from Nolan Becker who took top scoring honors for the game. Aaron Wortmann had a solid game and contributed 14 points to the Trojan totals.
Wynot got off to a fast start in this game. Devin Brummer led the way by hitting a pair of threepointers.
“They played much faster than we did. They brought it and we were late to the party,” said Cedar coach Nick Haselhorst. “Our focus and intensity showed up in the fourth, but credit to Wynot, they deserved to win, they out-worked us and brought the fight and intensity.”
Killian Steinhaus connected for two regular baskets and four other players hit a basket, as the Blue Devils lead 18-12 after one quarter. Cedar was paced by Nolan Becker’s five points, and a trey each by Aaron Wortmann and Jaymison Cattau.
In the second quarter, the Trojans got four more points from Aaron Wortmann and a basket from Kighter Wortmann. Wynot got five points from Andrew Haberman and four points each from Killian Steinhaus and Kotner Koch as they increased their lead to 33- 20 at halftime.
After halftime in the third period, Cedar got six more points from Aaron Wortmann, a trey by Nolan Becker and a basket each from Mason Baller and Braeden Reifenrath. Wynot kept the pressure on thanks to four more points by Haberman and three-pointers from Justin Heimes and Devin Brummer, increasing their lead to 49-33 going into the final quarter.
Cedar mounted a rally in the fourth quarter from three-point land. Three-pointers by Hunter Benson, Braeden Reifenrath and Nolan Becker, along with two-point baskets from Mason Baller and Jaymison Cattau, fueled the attempted comeback. Wynot held the Trojans back, thanks to five more points from Devin Brummer, a pair of buckets in close by Kotner Koch and some free throws, as the Blue Devils downed the Trojans by a final of 60-50.
