LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears lost three games over the past week, coming up short on the road at Humphrey/ Lindsay 59-56 on Jan. 10, dropping a game to Cedar Catholic Jan. 9 at Hartington 52-37 and getting beat by Elkhorn Valley back on Jan. 7 in a game played here in Laurel.
The Lady Bears hit the road on Jan. 10 to take on a very talented Humphrey/Lindsay team that was 9-2 heading into the contest. LCC stayed in the game the entire evening, but fell short in the end by the three-point margin.
Carlie Kvols had the hot hand for the Lady Bears pouring in 17 points, Rena Rasmussen was right on her heels with 15.
Camryn Sohler added nine, Kadia Eriksen chipped in eight and Lainey Schutte recorded seven.
Rasmussen completed a doubledouble with 10 rebounds, Eriksen just missed hers with her eight points, but she also corralled 10 missed shots.
Kvols and Schutte each dished out four assists while Rasmussen recorded three steals.
In the game with Cedar Catholic, the Lady Trojans went up early 10-2 before LCC got a Carlie Kvols charity toss and Rena Rasmussen bucket on a nifty pass from Kaida Eriksen to end the quarter with Cedar Catholic in front, 12-5.
The Lady Bears trailed 24-16 at the half, but rallied to get within a single basket in the third quarter.
Back-to-back buckets by Rasmussen, one on an offensive rebound a put back and a dribble drive in the paint where she was fouled while scoring and with 2:07 left in the third, Cedar Catholic led 29-27.
A pair of Kvols free throws with 1:32 left in the period made it 31-29 after the Lady Trojans scored, but the Lady Bears would get no closer.
Rasmussen score 20 points and Kvols added 12. Rasmussen also paced LCC with eight rebounds.
Eriksen had four assists and joined Hattie McCorkindale in leading the team with three steals apiece.
The Lady Falcons swept into Laurel with an undefeated record and a lofty ranking in Class C2 and did little to diminish either on their way to the 80-52 win.
Eriksen kept the Lady Bears in it in the first frame with a basket on a fast break after Elkhorn Valley took a 7-0 lead.
She was fouled on the play but didn’t complete the and-one then canned a 3-pointer to make it 10-5 with 5:34 left in the opening eight minutes.
Eriksen hit another long ball with just under four minutes left before the first rest stop to make 13-10 in favor of the Lady Falcons before Elkhorn Valley would go up 22-14 late in the period.
Rasmussen hit Eriksen in the middle for a bucket and the teams ended the first with the Lady Falcons up, 22-16.
EV would add six points to the lead before the half then put the game out of reach in the third by outscoring LCC 22-11 to go up 62-39 heading into the final eight minutes.
Rasmussen led the Lady Bears offense with 22 points while lion’s share of Eriksen’s 17 were in the first half.
Schutte grabbed eight rebounds, Kvols recorded five assists and Eriksen added five steals to her evening.
The Lady Bears were scheduled to host Wayne on Jan. 14, a team they lost to back in December in the Wayne Shootout 48-35.
LCC will head to Walthill Jan. 17 to take on the Lady Blujays before hosting Hartington-Newcastle on Jan. 21.
