Cedar wrestlers win another tournament

DAVID CITY - The Cedar Catholic Trojan wrestling team won another team title to keep rolling along this season.

The Trojans scored 181 points to win the Aquinas Invitational here Jan. 14, 48 points in front of Aquinas Catholic, the runner-up with 133.

Scotus Central Catholic was third with 130.5, Wilber-Clatonia was fourth with 115.5 and Doniphan-Trumbull finished fith to round out the top five.

Maverick Heine (126), Braeden Kleinschmit (132), Bodie Hochstein (138), Easton Hochstein (144) and Brady Hochstein (165) claimed individual titles in the meet.

Brody Kleinschmit (157) and Nicholas Coleman (215) placed third and Grady Lammers (106) placed fourth.

Meanwhile, the Lady Trojan wrestling team wrestled in the Winside Invitational where Evelyn Freeman pinned her way to an individual title at 110 pounds .

Freeman opened her day with a pin in 42 seconds, pinned her way to the finals match in 1:06 then stuck Baylee Chessmore of Neligh-Oakdale in 1:37.

The other Lady Trojan wrestler, Morgan Kuchta scored six team points and went 2-2 in the tournament with a couple of falls in two of her bouts.

Earlier in the week, the Trojans wrestled in a triangular dual meet in West Point on Jan. 7 at Guardian Angels Central Catholic with the Bluejays and Randolph.

Cedar Catholic won both duals, defeating the hosts, 4129 and defeating the Cardinals 32-27.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans will host a Triangular, Jan. 16 with West Holt and Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

The Trojans will then head to a tournament in Battle Creek on Jan. 18 and the Lady Trojans will be wrestling in Plainview on Jan. 18.
