HARTINGTON — Nebraska Extension recently held its annual Fall Conference, where two local extension educators were recognized for their exceptional efforts and achievements.
Each year, Nebraska Extension acknowledges outstanding and innovative professionals through an awards process.
An awards selection committee reviews nominations and makes recommendations to the Dean and Director, with winners announced during the Fall Conference.
Megan Hanefeldt, Cedar/Knox 4-H Youth Development Educator, was honored as the 2024 Nebraska Extension Mentor of the Year.
This prestigious award celebrates a mentor who excels not only in their own programming but also in inspiring and guiding others to achieve new levels of success.
Megan’s nominator highlighted her as a shining example of selflessness and dedication, noting her countless hours spent ensuring that those around her have the tools and support they need to thrive.
Jackie Steffen, Nebraska Extension Early Childhood Educator, received the Excellence in Extension Team Award forall of her collaboration efforts with Nebraska Children and Families’ Communities for Kids (C4K) initiative.
Marti Beard, Vice President of Early Childhood Programs, praised Nebraska Extension’s role in advancing access to high-quality childcare and increasing capacity.
“Nebraska Extension has been integral to our success,” said Beard. “Their professionals often lead the work in their communities and regions, bringing resources, connections, and innovative ideas. Building on the strong relationships this team has with local childcare providers, businesses, and leaders has been essential to C4K’s overall success.”
Cedar County has been part of the C4K initiative since 2022.
In that time, the program has provided $149,000 in direct financial assistance to licensed childcare providers in the county, underscoring its impact and effectiveness.
