Roth finds fishing success at Gavins Point Dam

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs.

Martin Marthwig, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rohde and Mrs. Irma Dirks and Barbara attended the wedding of Miss Mavis Halladay and Ernest House at Fremont Monday evening. Miss Halladay is a niece of Mrs. Rohde and Mr. Marthwig.

COLERIDGE — A sensational scoring spree by Neal Willms paced the Bulldogs to a lopsided 80-47 win over an out-manned Wynot team Tuesday.

Willms tossed in 36 points on 13 field goals and 10 of 13 chances at the free throw line. The Bulldogs were on top 17-4 at the end of the half and tallied 42 points in the last half while Wynot scored 30.

Gary Meier tallied 20 to help the Coleridge cause. Schroeder was Wynot’s big threat as he scored 23 points.

COLERIDGE — Alvin Roth hit his limit of two Spoonbill, caught Thursday below the dam at Gavins Point.

The big fellow weighed 40 pounds and was 60-1/2 inches long, while the other half of the limit couldn’t get past the pound mark on the scales.

COLERIDGE — “A Christmas Dream,” an all-school Christmas program was presented at the Coleridge Community School Auditorium Tuesday evening. Between 800-900 were on hand for the performance.

CONCORD — Forty members of the Concordia Lutheran junior missionary went Christmas caroling at the Laurel Nursing Home and to the shut-ins at Concord. Officers for the coming year are as follows: president, Gloria Magnuson; vice president, Dale Magnuson; treasurer, Lori Peterson and secretary, Steve Erwin.

The new missionary leader is Mrs.

Iner Peterson.

LAUREL- Volleyball girls extended their winning streak by defeating Newcastle. Top scorer was Sue Schaer with 12 points; June and Jane Kvols each had nine points. Debbie Brandow led the spikes with 15, Jane Kvols and Anita Ward followed closely with 11 and 10 respectively. June Kvols had the most assists with 16; Schaer had 12. Leading the statistics for the first five games are Schaer with 52 points and Jane Kvols with 46. Putting up the most assists were June Kvols with 61 and Schaer with 37; top spikers thus far are Jane Kvols with 35 and Brandow with 31.

HARTINGTON–Mrs. Ann Nelson of Laurel will head the 1975 Heart Fund Campaign in Cedar County, it was announced by Robert D. Sellers, M.D., President of the Nebraska Heart Association. The campaign will be conducted here and throughout the nation during February–Heart Month. Last year, over $1,600 was raised for the Heart Fund in Cedar County.

LAUREL — Gwendelyn May Macklem Finn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Macklem of Laurel, is one of 51 students awarded a degree December 20 during exercises at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Mrs. Finn was granted a master of science in nursing degree.

LAUREL- Pfc Thomas H. Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Burns, arrived home Dec. 10 from Aberdeen Md. He graduated from “Recovery Specialist Course” at Ordinance School in Aberdeen. He leaves January 9 for New Jersey and will go directly to Germany.

LAUREL- They say politics makes strange bedfellows and this “President’s” Quilt practically proves the point.

This beautiful blanket that was pictured in the Advocate was a surprise gift made by the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar Society for Father Allen Martin. Martin is an avid history buff especially when it comes to presidents. He has visited the birthplace and burial sites of all of them. The quilt represented the combined effort of many Altar Society efforts including the bust of each president, from Washington to Reagan, as well as his signature.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Chargers defeated the Wausa Vikettes Thursday by the decisive margin of 49-18. The Coleridge girls jumped to an early lead and quickly had the boards under control. Penny Smith led the Charger netters with 16 points while Jill Kramer, Karla Hefner, Brenda Froendt and Muffy Mitchell had six points. Mitchell terrorized the Wausa offense with 10 steals. Froendt had 11 rebounds and Smith six.
