LAUREL — Laurel’s annual Christmas celebration brightened up the night here last week.
The annual Night of Lights celebration went quite well, said Craig Gutz, who helped plan the event.
Everything went quite smoothly this year, he said. The Presbyterian Church had their annual meal. The meal has evolved over the years from a soup supper to a tavern and chili dog feed.
He said it snowed as it does every year right before the Night of Lights but the city crew was out shoveling sidewalks and cleaning the streets in preparation for the event.
Santa went over well as he always does Gutz said. Gutz said the vendor fair in the Laurel Community Center featured many local businesses who set up booths there instead of keeping their businesses open for convenience of the people attending the event. There were still several businesses that kept their doors open because it wasn’t practical for them to set up a booth with 15-20 items.
Moving forward. the vision for the event, Gutz said is to “keep it going the same way — nice opportunity for people to come out and support Laurel and kickoff to Christmas.”
