LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears remained unbeaten on the hardwood.
The Bears picked up wins over Tri-County Northeast Dec. 13, 56-42 here in Laurel and a 60-39 road win over the Homer Knights Dec. 10.
Against the Wolfpack, the Bears started the opening eight minutes with an 18-11 lead but TCNE came back in the second to head to the locker room with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge still in front by a bucket, 27-25.
“We came out fast and kind of started dragging mid game,” Bears coach Quin Conner said. “We were able to play a lot better defense the second half and kept a doubledigit margin for most of the game. We found some success late in the game getting the ball inside to Cade Johnson for either a basket or an assist.”
Johnson would finish the night with a double-double, recording 13 points and 13 rebounds while handing out three assists.
LCC would limit the Wolfpack to just 17 points for the entire second half while mounting the 14-point final margin of victory.
Gibson Roberts led all scorers in the contest with 23 points, Caleb Erwin joined Johnson with 13 while Carter Korth and Eli Haisch added four and three respectively.
Landyn Servine led Tri County Northeast with 14 points.
Erwin also pulled down seven rebounds, Roberts had five boards. Erwin also dished out four assists to lead the Bears in that category.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge traveled to Homer to pick up its third win of the young season on Dec. 10 by the 60-39 final score.
The Bears put some distance between themselves and the Knights in the second frame after the team ended the opening eight minutes with LCC in front, 14-12.
Roberts, who would finish with 19 points in the game, cleaned up a missed shot early on to give LCC its first lead of the game 3-2 then he hit a three to increase the advantage to 6-2.
Haisch fired in a long ball after the Knights missed a pair of free throws, then he converted 1-of-2 charity tosses to make it 10-2.
By the end of the first frame, the Knights were back in it.
“I thought we competed hard for the most part,” Conner said. “The ball wasn’t really going in early on but we picked it up in the second and third quarters. We were able to hold them to under 40 points which is our top priority every game we go into.”
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored Homer 21-6 in the second quarter then took the second half 25-21 to post the 21-point win.
Roberts again paced the Bears offense with 19 points, Johnson added 12, Erwin chipped in nine and Haisch finished with seven.
Roberts hauled in nine missed shots, Johnson grabbed five while Erwin, Haisch and Tanner Thompson each snared four.
Erwin added four assists and four steals to his productive night.
The Bears are set to finish out the pre-holiday portion of their schedule on the road with trips lined up to take on 3-1 Ponca on Dec. 17 and a trip to currently 3-1 Plainview on Dec. 20 to open Greater Northeast Activities Conference action.
