RANDOLPH – Major construction wrapped on Randolph’s floodplain project this summer but work is still ongoing to remove the city’s floodplain designation.
City Administrator Sheila Korth-Focken said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is finalizing data to be incorporated into new floodplain maps. This process is estimated to take until February 2025.
From there, the new information will be sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources so new maps can be created.
“We do not know exactly when the new floodplain maps will be released, but we are in touch with U.S. Senators’ offices about contacting the Corps to move the process along as quickly as possible so Randolph residents can officially be out of the floodplain, for flood insurance, economic development, and other purposes,” Korth-Focken said.
Randolph’s new floodplain maps, when finalized, will be incorporated into Cedar County’s floodplain maps, she said.
The Corps will also provide a manual next spring detailing how to operate and maintain the flood control into the future.
At this time, there are no plans for a dedication of the floodplain project.
